Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Cofounnder (“Cofounnder,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our mobile application and this website (together, the “Service ”). We’ve written it to be readable, not just compliant.
1. Who we are
Cofounnder is a tool that helps founders evaluate a potential co-founder through a structured, evidence-based process. The Service is operated by Cofounnder. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@cofounnder.com.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
2.1 Information you provide
- Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials (managed by our authentication provider). We do not store your password in plain text.
- Profile information. Details you add about yourself, your venture, your role (Idea or Builder), skills, goals, and preferences.
- Evaluation content. The answers, notes, and inputs you provide as you move through the co-founder evaluation, including the responses that form your Partnership Report.
- Photos and documents. Any images or files you choose to upload (for example, a profile photo or supporting material).
- Messages. If the Service offers messaging or collaboration features, the content of communications you send through it.
- Support correspondence. Information you provide when you contact us for help.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Device & usage data. Basic technical information such as device type, operating system, app version, and interactions with the Service, used to keep it working and improve it.
- Push notification tokens. If you enable notifications, a device token so we can deliver them. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
- Approximate location. If a feature uses maps or location (powered by Mapbox), we may process location data to provide that feature. We do not continuously track your location in the background.
3. How we use your information
- To provide, maintain, and operate the Service;
- To deliver the core experience — guiding your evaluation and generating your Partnership Report;
- To authenticate you and secure your account;
- To send you service-related communications and notifications;
- To respond to your support requests;
- To understand usage so we can improve features and fix bugs;
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your evaluation content to advertise to you.
4. Artificial intelligence
Cofounnder uses artificial intelligence to help guide the evaluation and to generate parts of your Partnership Report. To do this, relevant inputs you provide are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, PBC, which processes them to return a response. Anthropic acts as our processor/subprocessor for this purpose. We do not use your content to train third-party foundation models, and we share only what is necessary to deliver the feature.
5. How we share information
We share information only in the following circumstances, and only as needed:
- Service providers (subprocessors). Trusted vendors who process data on our behalf to run the Service. These currently include:
- Google / Firebase — authentication, database, and backend infrastructure;
- Anthropic — AI processing (see Section 4);
- Expo — mobile app build, delivery, and push notification infrastructure;
- Mapbox — maps and location features, where used.
- Other users. If you choose to collaborate or share a Partnership Report with a potential co-founder, the information you share will be visible to them.
- Legal & safety. When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, orCofounnder.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
6. International data transfers
Our providers may process and store information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where we transfer personal data out of the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. Data retention
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
8. Your rights
8.1 European Economic Area, UK & Switzerland (GDPR)
If you are located in these regions, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Our legal bases for processing are: the performance of our contract with you, your consent, our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Service, and compliance with legal obligations. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
8.2 California (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
8.3 Exercising your rights
You can exercise most rights directly in the app, or by emailing support@cofounnder.com. You can delete your account and associated data at any time from within the app, or by following the steps on our account deletion page.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children’s privacy
The Service is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use Cofounnder. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
